Introducing Bittersweet Editorial

As of today, June 1, 2024, I have completed the UC San Diego Extension Copyediting Certificate Program. This program takes one year to complete and moves from a grammar lab course through three levels of progressively more involved editing courses. When I first decided I wanted to become an editor, I initially started trying to teach myself the trade with workbooks and style manuals, but I quickly realized the necessity of formal instruction, and after completing the certificate I can confidently say this was the right decision for me.

And now that brings me to the launch of Bittersweet Editorial. With my shiny new certificate in hand (okay, maybe it is still in the hands of a carrier with USPS, but figuratively it is in my hand), I feel fully prepared to begin working with clients to present their words in their best possible form. I am interested in a wide variety of editing work, but have a particular interest in working with fiction authors, especially of literary, romance, and historical fiction, or any combination thereof, and on the nonfiction side I am drawn to academic editing in the humanities and social sciences.

As I gather my first clients, I will be offering temporary introductory rates to thank you for taking a chance on a newer editor. I assure you what you will receive is a polished and professional-level edit. I found myself drawn to editing heavily based on its collaborative nature, and I want to be your teammate behind the scenes, making sure that the words you release into the world show you in the best possible light. If you think we might be a good fit, get in touch today!
